French bread is usually made from basic lean dough, a simple guideline noted down by French law. It has a specific shape and can be distinguished by its length, crisp crust and cut several slits in order to make proper expansion of gas possible and thus formation of the crumb, which is the inner soft part of bread. The standard diameter of a baguette is approximate 5 or 150px, but the bread itself can be as long as 1meter, though mostly about 1500px. It is also called a French stick or a French bread in English. Baguettes are very often used for sandwiches. Baguettes are commonly sliced and served with paste or cheeses. The slices of baguette, as part of the traditional breakfast in France, are spread with jam and dunked in bowls of coffee or hot chocolate.
